PHDINN908 - Innovation and Sustainable Transition

Tin attends the course, PHDINN908 Innovation and Sustainability Transitions. Sustainable transition research emphasizes the need for transformative change at a systemic level, encompassing wholesale changes in the modes of production and consumption of societal sectors. Due to the specific, often wicked, characteristics of sustainability problems incremental change in existing systems is deemed insufficient.

PHDINN908 was described as the flagship course of the RESINNREG program with over 100 applicants from all over the world. Beyond the topic and insight into the methodologies behind sustainability transitions, the lecturers also spoke candidly about their convictions, stances and aspirations. Some gave insight into the publishing world, others was decisive about their thoughts on staying away from public sector/policy making. The course is led by prof. Lars Coenen and some of the lectures that was flown in, were Bernhard Truffer, Niki Frantzeskaki, Lea Fünfschilling, and Teis Hansen.

Research fellows has to complete 30 ECTS credits of courses for the duration of a PhD-programme, each course consisting of ca. 5 ECTS (6 courses all together). Some of these courses are mandatory, while the rest of the ECTS are electives chosen accordingly to the relevance of the candidate’s PhD, such as this HVL course. The total count is currently at 30 ECTS credits, if Tin passes this course he will have completed the credit requirement for the PhD education.
