Visiting Researcher at NIBR, OsloMet
Tin is now a visiting fellow at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (NIBR), Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet). As a result, Tin was asked to present himself for the staff and Gro Sandkjær Hanssen posed one crucial question: what does he expect to gain from as a visiting researcher? Read the article to find this out!
According to London School of Economics, “The Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for scholars of early post-doctoral status or pre-Major Review and researchers in the early stage of their career. The status of Visiting Fellow is non-contractual and confers no special privileges.” So basically no perks…
The institutional and legislative aspects of Tin’s PhD do overlap with NIBR’s research. The Institute's studies of political governance in spatial contexts provide a comprehensive perspective and deeper understanding of complex societal conditions, facilitating comparisons across government levels, geographical areas, policy fields, and nations. Their three focus areas are as following:
Place: This refers to geographical areas, such as cities and municipalities, along with concepts of identity and belonging. The geographical dimension has significant economic, cultural, and political implications in our social analyses.
Governance: This encompasses knowledge of political processes, instruments, management, and values. Our analyses focus on public policy implementation, planning, organizational coordination, democracy, and participation.
Sectors: Our expertise in place and governance is connected to several policy areas, particularly climate and environmental issues, housing policy, public health, and regional and business policy.
As Gro’s question: Tin gave three answers:
Access to their volume of scientific journals (NMBU has limited access).
Learn the ropes of contract research, as Tin believe in commercialisation of research and sadistic whipping when researching.
To small talk, and count butts - Tin’s research is about counting butts on seats, in accounting for butts one also knows how to fill the seats with new butts.
7 min from his home. Tin did not admit to this fact and kept it a secret.
