LAA350 - RFP
Tin’s swan song lecture and workshop on RFP - Space, functions and program. This might be the last lecture he will hold at NMBU, as his contract expires in February 2025. In essence, LAA350’s scope is early stage concept development from idea to massing study, and this lecture goes beyond that scope. Because the next step, is actually breaking down the massing study of one program (P), into smaller functions (F) and spaces (R). This is the necessary a step to closing the gap between early stage concept, and late stage construction blueprint.
LAA350 - Midterm Seminar
The students are to present their project as-it-is at this point in time. There are some criteria for this session: overarching idea, analysis of the place, and their spatial guidelines - these are the things that the teachers Anja, Tin and Mads has been drilling the students on through lectures, workshops and pop-quiz. The sum of this should culminate in a design proposal. Especially, Tin stood out with his pastry skills baking lemonies (the lemon-version of brownies) and serving 4l of ice cream. This coincided right before the midterm review of the teachers’ performance.
SITRAP National Student Competition
This year’s student competition 2nd place went to the team - Local Wizz, taking home 15.000 NOK! The team consisted of the property students Gowsiggan Selvanesan, Johannes Dahl Sundal, David Børresen Thorkildsen, and +1. Tin correctly ranked both 1st and 2nd place as the top contenders to win the coveted award, in his precursor workshop three weeks prior. The 2nd place students got additional supervision by the maestro himself the following weekend. If successful, Tin was promised a steak dinner by the students. Tin has yet to receive such a dinner.
LAA350 - Concept
Tin will lecture and workshop on Concept - 1. context, 2. problem, 3. overarching idea and how these shape the 4. spatial guidelines for their project. Again, there is no false or true answers when it comes to design or urban proposals, but there are the more interesting proposal according to a setting or jury.
LAA350 - Diagram
Once again, the lecture/workshop titled "Diagram" at LAA350, which aims to equip students from both graphical and non-graphical disciplines with the necessary tools to effectively draw, communicate, and persuade. The structure of the lecture consists of three components: a lecture, an assignment, and a pin-up session. A significant aspect of spatial planning involves conveying abstract concepts that complement more concrete sections and plans.
LAA350 - Proptech
Tin held the same lecture he held at Proptech Prodigies some weeks prior. The lecture focuses on two cases: the Norwegian proptech market and how young professionals responds to digital tools. Both of these cases are based on paper 1 and paper 2 of Tin’s PhD. Yes, we are fully aware that this lecture has been held and heard many times. Take it up with HR at Tin.uno....
LAA350 - Analysis
Tin will for the first time hold the lecture, “From-analysis-to-concept”, emphasizing the importance of connecting the two. This may sound contradictory in a field with wicked problems or no right-or-wrong-answers, yet it is crucial for coherency for any concept or deliverables. Another motive for holding this lecture, is to separate the different parts of the planning process, taught in EIE310, LAA350, and APL350.
Proptech Prodigies kick-off
The long-awaited kick-off of Prodigies with a keynote held by Tin. His theme was the Norwegian proptech market and how young professionals responds to this. Tin was in good company with other keynotes such as Trond Riiber Knudsen of TRK Group, Henrik Taubøll of Haavind, Ingunn Randa of OBOS and many more. As usual, Tin spoke about asses and sweatshops.
LAA350 - Oppgaveforståelse lecture
Tin will hold the lecture titled "Oppgaveforståelse" for the second time in the course LAA350, marking his first opportunity to share insights on a topic that typically addresses the initial steps involved in obtaining public procurement for large urban projects. This lecture is particularly noteworthy as it draws upon Tin's extensive experience with plan and design competitions, having participated in numerous awarded projects between 2017 and 2023.
Konkurranseånd 2 Commences!
Konkurranseånd 2 (transl. Competitive Spirit) was hosted with Urban Lab and with a biger supervising crew, Nora Ulrikke Andersen and Saddaf Parwany. This session serves as a precursor to SITRAP’s national student competition, Selfie Tourism. The aim of this workshop is to establish 9 teams across acquaintances, fields and time spent studying, and push the ideation of concepts to the limit.
LAA350 Commences
Tin joins in for a second time on the course LAA350 - Projects in Urban Development, alongside Anja Standal and Mads Juel Engh. The class of ‘24 consists of 88 students in interdisciplinary groups and will be working with city Askim. The course encourages studies of structures, massing and in-between spaces.
Thesis defense: Moland & Moi
This year marks the first time Tin supervised alone a master thesis on property development, consisting of André Moi and Joakim Moland Andersen. In poorly translated English, their thesis title were, “How do new digital tools influence established practices in the early stages of property development?". Judging from the grin on their faces, Tin must have done a mighty fine job.
GLA304 - Diagram
Tin held the lecture/workshop Diagram at GLA304, a lecture to encourage students to draw, convey and convince beyond their usual landscape training. A big part of spatial planning is also about conveying abstract ideas to supplement the concrete sections/plans.
MAST303 Master Thesis
Tin held the lecture, “Master thesis as in applying for your dream job”. The focus of this lecture was to convey how the structure of a thesis is transferable to professional life.
Hakket Bedre! + Urban Lab Teaser
Hakket Bedre! - the informal talk focused on the industry’s future and tech advancements. Additionally, together Tin will lead the next Urban Lab session, “The Gameplan” premiering 9th of March.
